Build your own fusion of trance and hardcore with Webjockey Flur's Rifflist: "Screamo, and Hardcore, and Trance, OH MY."
For a small island, the UK has provided countless musicians that to merely describe as "innovative" would be an understatement. Bands like Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath invented metal, the Sex Pistols and the Clash were a key part to the punk rock movement, and the clubs have always been accepting of new artists, from rock to the Euro rave scene. Now, four young’ns from St. Albans are bringing a new sound to both Britain and beyond.
Enter Shikari has been described as "trancecore," but their debut album "Take to the Skies" makes such a categorization an uneasy fit. Without the keyboard element of their tracks, Enter Shikari would simply be a solid metalcore group, with hardcore screams, licks, and breakdowns. Instead, the four-piece band brings an energetic mix of electronics to their blend.
At first glance, it may sound like a disagreeable combination between two cultures-the rave kids won't like the metal, the metalheads who came to mosh won't like trance-but Enter Shikari's fan base is rabid and widespread. In short, the band's sound is so powerful, they've managed the daunting task of impressing the notoriously image conscious and elitist hardcore fan base.
Punk in form and attitude, with a DIY work ethic, Enter Shikari's rap sheet is already impressive. Playing over 500 UK acts, they are only the second unsigned act to sell out London's Astoria. With their aptly named release now available in the US, the sky is truly the limit.
